Em seu livro “Traité de l’efficacité”, publicado em 1997, o sinólogo francês François Jullien observou que tratados militares (como Son Ji), diplomáticos (como Gwai Guk Ji) e políticos (como o Hon Fei Ji), escritos no Período Jin Gwok , apresentaram coerentemente uma inteligência, desenvolvida pelo pensamento chinês, de natureza eminentemente estratégica que marcou os principais setores da atividade humana. 

Na mesma obra mencionada, ele escreveu que essa inteligência “não passa pela relação teoria-prática e se apoia apenas na evolução das coisas”. Ao estudá-la descobrimos uma concepção de eficácia que ensina a deixar advir o efeito: não a visá-lo (diretamente) e buscá-lo, mas a deixá-lo resultar (como consequência) e a recolhê-lo.

 

Se um estrategista chinês não se empenha com algo e se esforça para não forçar, não se trata de negligência ou alienação, mas de ter mais êxito no mundo.

Por isso, os tratados do Período dos Reinos Combatentes diziam que “basta saber tirar proveito do desenrolar da situação para se deixar "portar" por ela”.

Esse tipo de pensamento estratégico foi desenvolvido, com base no pensamento chinês, – fundamentado na relação Yam-Yeung -, favoreceu refletir a guerra em termos de polaridade. Mas se há oposição, há também complementaridade. Ao pensar a guerra assim, é natural enxergá-la a partir da relação com a outra parte (o adversário) e não da vontade isolada de uma das partes. O mesmo se passa com a diplomacia e a política, bem como todas as atividades que envolvem relações humanas. 

É dentro desse contexto que um compatriota de François Jullien, o também sinólogo Jean Levi destacou o Son Ji  como exemplo de uma tradição filosófica na qual a inteligência era considerada principalmente – se não exclusivamente – como a capacidade de interpretar a mudança.

Ving Tsun (wing chun) and the strategic consciousness.

In his book “Traité de l’efficacité”, published in 1997, the french sinologist François Jullien observed that military (such as Son Ji), diplomatic (such as Gwai Guk Ji) and political (such as Hon Fei Ji) treaties, written during the Jin Gwok Period, showed congruently an intelligence, developed by Chinese thought, of an eminently strategic nature that marked the main sectors of the human activity.

On the same work mentioned earlier, he wrote that this intelligence "doesn't go through the relationship between theory and practice and it finds support only in the evolution of things". While studying it we found out a conception of efficiency which teaches to let the effect come by itself: not to target it (directly) and pursue it, but to let it result (as consequence) and to collect it. 

If a Chinese strategist doesn't strive with anything and makes an effort to not force, it's not about negligence nor alienation, but to have success in the world.

That's why, the treaties of the Warring States Period said that "It's enough to take advantage of the unwinding of the situation to let ourselves be 'ported' by it". 

This type of strategic thinking was developed, based on Chinese thought, grounded on the Yam-Yeung relation, favored to reflect war in terms of polarity. But if there is oposition, there is also complementarity. To think of war this way, it's natural to see it through the relationship with the other part (the adversary) and not through the will alone of one of the parts. The same goes with diplomacy and politics, as well as with all of the activities which involves human relation.

It's inside this context that a François Jullien's countryman, the also sinologist Jean Levi highlighted Son Ji as an example of a philosophical tradition in which the intelligence was considered mainly – if not exclusively – as a capacity to interpret the changes.
